There’s something truly magical about a girls’ trip—the laughter, the bonding, and of course, the unforgettable experiences. Recently, I embarked on an epic 3-day journey through some of California’s most stunning locations, all within the Santa Barbara area to celebrate my best friend starting her last year of law school!
I first got her to go on an Airstream adventure with me when she finished her second year of law school and she LOVED it, so here we are again and this time I want to bring back all of the fun activites we did so you can do it with your best friend too!
Traveling in my trusty Airstream, we explored the natural beauty of Cachuma Lake, the remote serenity of the Channel Islands, and the charming Danish village of Solvang. Let's dive into why Santa Barbara should be at the top of your list for your next girls’ getaway.
Santa Barbara and its surrounding areas offer a perfect mix of relaxation, adventure, and charm, making it an ideal destination for a girls’ trip. Whether you’re lounging by the lake, exploring remote islands, or strolling through a European-style village, there’s something for everyone.
Variety of Experiences: From the natural beauty of Cachuma Lake to the historical charm of Solvang, each day of our trip offered something different and exciting. This variety keeps the trip dynamic and ensures that everyone in your group finds something they love.
Perfect for All Seasons: The Santa Barbara area boasts a mild climate year-round, so whether you’re planning a summer getaway or a winter escape, you’ll find the weather to be just right.
Easy Accessibility: One of the best things about this region is how accessible it is. Santa Barbara is just a short drive from major cities like Los Angeles, making it easy to reach without the hassle of long travel times.
Unforgettable Memories: Most importantly, this trip left us with unforgettable memories—those moments of laughter, adventure, and connection that are the essence of a great girls’ trip.

The first stop on our trip was Cachuma Lake, a hidden gem nestled in the Santa Ynez Valley. This spot is perfect for a group of friends looking to unwind and reconnect with nature. We parked our Airstream right by the lake in an RV site, surrounded by rolling hills and lush greenery. The serenity here is unmatched—perfect for catching up on life while enjoying the peaceful sounds of nature.
Activities:
For our second day, we ventured out to the Channel Islands, an experience that added a dash of adventure to our trip. The Channel Islands are a short boat ride from Santa Barbara, yet they feel like a world away with their untouched landscapes and abundant wildlife. We happened to go on a great day where so much widlife was out and active.
Activities:
Our final day was spent in Solvang, a charming village that transports you straight to Denmark. This quaint town is known for its Danish-style architecture, delectable pastries, and unique shops, making it the perfect spot for a day of leisurely exploration.

A day of wine tasting in the rolling vineyards, followed by a relaxing soak in one of the natural hot springs, makes for a perfect blend of indulgence and relaxation. Further south, the quaint town of Cambria offers a coastal escape with a touch of whimsy. Nestled along the scenic Highway 1, Cambria is known for its artistic community and stunning ocean views. A visit to Moonstone Beach is a must, where you can stroll along the boardwalk, collecting the smooth stones that give the beach its name, or simply take in the breathtaking views of the Pacific. The town’s unique shops and galleries are perfect for a leisurely afternoon of browsing, and the nearby Hearst Castle adds a dash of history and grandeur to your trip. San Luis Obispo, often referred to as SLO, is another fantastic destination for a girls’ trip. This college town is known for its lively atmosphere and beautiful surroundings. Start your visit with a hike up Bishop Peak for panoramic views of the area, or enjoy a leisurely bike ride along the Bob Jones Trail. The town’s charming downtown area is perfect for shopping and dining, with a mix of trendy boutiques, artisanal shops, and farm-to-table restaurants. Don’t miss the famous Thursday night farmers’ market, where you can sample local produce, enjoy live music, and soak up the community spirit. San Luis Obispo also offers great opportunities for relaxation, with nearby hot springs and wellness retreats.
Further inland, the historic town of Los Alamos offers a unique blend of Old West charm and modern sophistication. This small town is home to a surprising number of high-end restaurants, wine bars, and antique shops. Spend the day exploring the town’s historic buildings, many of which have been converted into trendy eateries and boutiques, or head out to the surrounding vineyards for a wine tasting tour. Los Alamos’ slow pace and picturesque setting make it a great spot for a relaxing getaway with friends, where you can savor good food, great wine, and each other’s company.
Each of these Central California towns offers something special for a girls’ trip, whether you’re looking to explore the great outdoors, indulge in fine food and wine, or simply relax and recharge. With their beautiful landscapes, welcoming communities, and diverse activities, these destinations ensure that your girls’ getaway will be filled with unforgettable moments and lasting memories.
If you’re looking for a destination that offers a little bit of everything—nature, adventure, culture, and relaxation—then Santa Barbara should be at the top of your list. My 3-day journey with my best friend through Cachuma Lake, the Channel Islands, and Solvang was nothing short of magical, and it’s a trip we’ll treasure forever.
