Finding an Airstream for sale is not necessarily difficult depending on your location, goals, and budget. However, everyone chooses to go about their journeys differently, thus making the entire Airstream community a diverse, friendly environment to share stories, tips, and so much more with one another.
If you're planning on starting your adventure on your own or maybe you'll have someone tag along with you every now and then, knowing which model to choose can be overwhelming.
I primarily travel solo, but every so often my sister or parents tag along (might need an upgrade soon). When I was going through the process of finding which Airsteam I wanted, I created a list and took into consideration the activities I enjoy doing (cooking, hiking, fishing) and chose a size I thought would be suitable for my goals. Counterspace, storage, and size were the biggest factors contributing to my decision.
I also considered the fact I had never towed before in my life--yet alone drive a vehicle larger than a mid-size truck. 5 months before finding the right Airstream for sale, I drove a Toyota Tundra around until I felt comfortable and successfully backed-up and manouviered the vehicle with ease (bare with me, I am only 23 years-old). Even still--I had never towed until the day I got my Airstream and immediately headed towards the freeway.
Obviously, the biggest conern and framework for deciding which model to chose is your budget, but also make sure to take into consideration your vehicle towing capacity, which layout, storage needs, and activites you would like to partake in while you travel (i.e., kayaking, biking, etc.). Don't forget about where you are going to store your Airstream for when you are not traveling (rent a spot, driveway space, etc.)
Once you have a clear envision of what you'd see you life as in an Airstream, you can start finding Airstreams for sale ranging between $46,000 to anywhere around $200,000 if you want to go all out for a current 2023 model. Of course, previous Airstream models sell for less or if you're looking for a major yet rewarding DIY project, you can find a used Airstream for sale on platforms like Craigslist around $15,000 to $30,000 depending on the year, size, and model.
To help make the selection process perhaps a bit easier, below are 5 great beginner Airstream models you might want to consider.

Once again, keep in mind, each length offers a different floor plan depending on your needs.

Obviously I would not recommend starting off with a large sized trailer if it is your first time towing and adventuring like this! It is easier to start small, then once it surpasses your needs, consider trading in your current model or a larger one.

As you can see, there are not too many cons about owning an Airstream. It truly depends on your personal needs and goals when buying one.
As for myself, after a 5 month search process and a couple walk throughs, I decided on the 2023 23' Flying Cloud model due to the storage, layout, width, and counterspace.
I've talked to other fellow Airstreamers who have upgraded over the years and many (most are couples) start with the Bambi and eventually upgrade to the Flying Cloud. I cannot speak from experience, but one couple told me the Flying Cloud has more storage compared to their current Airstream, the International.

5 Airstream Models For Beginners

Rather than spending hours researching lakes with campsites and what types of fish are in the lake, I want to save you a little time by providing a list of all the lakes within Mammoth you can easily fish and camp at.
Here is a list of 6 lakes with each one having either one or a few different campgrounds you can choose between. Some are located within the city of Mammoth itself (the popular ski areas), while others are a simple 15 to 20 minute drive from the main city if you are hoping to escape the crowds.
Keep in mind, most of these campgrounds are only open from May to October each year.&nbsp;
Mammoth Campgrounds
1. Convict Lake

Convict Lake is a great location for anyone looking to escape the crowds of Mammoth and hoping for a more remote camping experience. The <a href="https://www.campendium.com/convict-lake" target="_self">Convict Lake Campground</a> is a spacious area with a very welcoming community. There are no hook up so you will either be off-grid or dry camping depending how you camp. Both campsites are a very short walk or drive to reach Convict Lake--making it quite the hidden gem.
If you love fun facts, Convict Lake got it's name after two convicts escaped a prison in Carson City, NV in 1871. Eventually, the police found both convicts, shot and killed them both right in front of the lake--thus Convict Lake
As for fishing, the lake is stocked with rainbow trout and also contains beautiful brown trout. If using an open reel, inflating nightcrawls on a leader is common as well as mini jigs (caramel apple seems to be a hit). Obviously it's hard to know what the fish are biting on, so be sure to stop by the Convict Lake General Store to get some tips and gear. Regardless, the crystal clear, turquoise-blue water makes you're time on the lake unforgettable--even without a catch.
2. Lake Crowley

Before reaching both Convict Lake and the Mammoth Lakes (if heading north on the 395), you'll drive past Lake Crowley spanning over 12 miles long and 5 miles wide.
If you're looking to camp, there are plenty of campsites to choose from with some having full-hook up and others being off-grid.

If you hope to catch a variety of fish, then look no further beacsue Lake Crowley contains not only rainbow and brown trout, but also Owens sucker and pupfish, as well as Sacramento perch. 3. Lake Mary

Location within Mammoth Lakes, Lake Mary is one of the many lakes you can fish and camp at. According to the USDA, the lake has brown, rainbow, and brooke trout can all be caught on the lake, typically with silver lures, spinners, gold spoons, or just common trout bait. There are also a few streams where you can get lucky too.&nbsp;

5. Lake Mami

Lake Mami is right across from Lake Mary, with the Lake Mary Campground being the closest and of course, the lake is stocked with rainbow trout.&nbsp;
6. Twin Lakes

Twin Lakes is one of the more popular fishing lakes along with Lake Mary and Convict lake. Huge brown and rainbow trout can be caught here along with brook trout, native cutthroat trout and kokanee salmon.
As for camping, the <a href="https://www.campendium.com/twin-lakes" target="_self">Twin Lakes Campground</a> is the spot if you want to be right on the lake and fish more conviently.&nbsp;

Most of these Lakes are only open during the Spring and Summer seasons due to the large amounts of snow Mammoth recieves, so as always, plan ahead. Regardless, Mammoth offeres a range of camping, fishing, and winter activites year-round--making Mammoth beyond worth the trip. With it comping up on one year since I first got my trailer, here is a list of 10 items I always double check on my list.
1. Milwuakee Tool Bag

Inside my tool bag I carry basic handy tools as anyone would need around their house. Philiphs head screwdrivers, ratchet set, levels, screws, a drill, and various other drill bits. While I may not be needed everyday, it sure is handy when you do need it.
2. Starlink

As a solo female traveler, not having service is not the best way to go about your day. Luckily, I had only been in a couple of situations without service (thankfully once I was with my brother). My dad quickly suggested buying Starlink so I could always have a way to keep in contact with someone at all times.

On one of my first big solo trips, at my first destination I ran over a huge nail and drove the rest of the weed with a nail in my tire (thank you anxiety for resting on my shoulders that entire trip). I had gone to tire shops and everyone said I was fine and it was the elavation (well they were wrong). Anyways, if I had an air pump at that time I could have determined I had a nail in my tire by watching the tire pressure and having hard proof rather than listening to personal opinions without doing an thorough search (went to two tire shops!). Lessons are always learned the hard way right.
4. Jackery Power Station

You will never regret carrying a power station with you. There has been a situation where I arrived at a campsite thinking I had power, but due to some miscommunication, I was left without power in the cold. Luckily enough, I brought my Jackery power station and could operate just fine until I found power again.
A power station is great not only for emergencies, but also if you want to plug something in and you're not right next to your Airstream or camper.
5. Bug Cleaner for Windshields

I did not realize how many bugs will cover your windshield and front of your trailer when towing for a long time. When my mom and I traveled to Paso Robles, we arrived and there was an disgusting amount of bugs smeared everywhere. Time after time, I finally got annoyed and bought this bug cleaner without any remose.
6. Fishing Gear

Before leaving for every trip, I always make sure to grab two fishing poles already with their reels, my tackle vest (which is usually kept in the Airstream), as well as a cooler, net, ziplock bags, and my fillet knife. Ideally I also bring my fishing paddleboard with me, but not every lake is so paddle-board friendly, so I choose my battles with that one. If I leave any bait or line at home, I am never concerned as all tackle shops can assist you.
7. Mini Shop Vac

When I first started traveling I thought life would be a little more dirty, but to my surprise (as with most things), it just depends on what exactly you are doing and where you are going. When I camped off-grid in Joshua Tree cleanliness was out the door because dust and dirt is EVERYWHERE. Meanwhile, when I went to Santa Cruz, I had full-hook and a stayed at a well-kept, paved KOA RV site so dirty rarely got in. Now when I was in Redding, leaves were absolutely everywhere and I couldn't control.
To get all the crumps and have a fully clean floor I love to bring a mini shop VAC for its duality purposes. Sometimes I bring my paddleboard, so the shop VAC is a great option!
8. SoloStove

My SoloStove is one of my favorite items my dad has bought me. The smokeless fire pit is lightweight, easy to manage, comes with a travel bag and great tools for maintaining your fire. From roasting S'mores to hot dogs, I do believe you woukd love a Solo Stove too.
9. Disposable and Work Gloves

This may sound silly to some, I carry both disposable gloves for when I'm messing with the sewer hose or anything nasty and a pair of work gloves for when I'm working on something in the cold. I have learned it is best to always carry those items.

Us ladies have to come prepare, because I definetly have ran into lady issues while on the road (and that's just how life goes sometimes!) I always make sure I carry a change of underwear, sanitary wipes and pads, deoderant, allergy pills, advil, and eye drops. (I have bad allergies so I ALWAYS need to be ready).

We all have our favorite things we cannot live without, but traveling in an Airstream forces you to prioritize certain items over others. Below is my list of the items I cannot live without when I'm traveling solo in my Airstream. 

10 Must-Haves in an Airstream

Paso Robles is essentially a smaller, less developed version of Napa. This is staring to become a popular wine destintion because the grape vines have been established for long enough where the wine is starting to get tastier. Make sure to stop at all the best wineries in Paso Robles and if you have the time, there are breathtaking ocean views roughly an hour out from Paso Robles.
To hopefully make your trip to Paso Robles a little more enjoyable (not that you wouldn't already have an amazing time there!), here is a short list of 5 tricks or locations I wish I knew about so I did not have to plan as thoroughly--not as if detailed planning is a problem.&nbsp;
<h3>1. Be sure to eat at <a href="https://www.tastepasorobles.com/" target="_self">TASTE! Craft Eatery </a> </h3>

TASTE! was by far the best restaurant my mom and I went to while visiting Paso Robles. There is an extensive variety of different types of burger sliders you can choose from (I went with the lettuce bun!) as well as a range of cocktail options and the dining scene is beautiful!&nbsp;
This is a popular place so either arrive early, book a reservation, or be prepared to wait for a little bit (if you eat at the bar, you don't have to wait as long).&nbsp;
As a tip for parking, simply park across the street at the City Hall Parking Lot for free parking.&nbsp;
<h3>2. Take the Highway 46 to Cambria to hike Bluff Trail</h3>

This is one of the most scenic drives I have been on and is full of vibrant green, rolling hills. Eventually, as you're heading West, you will be the ocean, but some of the best ocean views are in the city of Cambria itself, so be sure to go on the Bluff Trail hike where you will be right on the edge of the coastline.&nbsp;
On you drive back to Paso Robles heading East on highway 46, there will be a perfect spot to pull over and take a beautiful picture of the rolling hills and ocean view (that's where the cover photo for this article if taken at).&nbsp;
As for a tasty place to eat, either go to <a href="https://hiddenkitchencalifornia.com/" target="_self">The Hidden Kitchen</a> or <a href="https://creeksidecafecambria.com/" target="_self">Creekside Gardens</a> --neither one will disappoint you!
<h3>3. Go to <a href="https://sensoriopaso.com/" target="_self">Scenorio Light Show</a> on a Thursday </h3>

The Scensorio Light Show is only open Thursday-Saturday, so be sure to plan ahead! Personally, going on a Thursday is a great idea because it will not be crowded as it could be compared to a Friday or Saturday. Of course, there will be people, but if you are hoping to avoid big crowds--buy tickets for Thursday evening.&nbsp;
Also make sure to get there to watch the sunset because it is quite beautiful, but remember the lights are solar powered so they will not become fully visible until it is pitch black outside.&nbsp;
<h3>4. Stop at the Paso Robles <a href="https://hopefamilywines.com/" target="_self">Austin Hope Winery</a> </h3>

Austin Hope is one of the best Paso Robles wineries, but is definetly one of my family's favorite wine options as their Cabernet Sauvignon is incredible. If you are looking for a different type of wine, their Graciano is always just as good on its own.&nbsp;
The service there is incredible with everyone being friendly and timely. Austin Hope winery in Paso Robles does not advertise compared to other wineries so it might be easy to skip over this winery, but I promise if you go, there will be no regrets!
<h3>5. <a href="https://riveroakshotsprings.com/services/" target="_self">River Oaks Hot Springs Spa</a> </h3>

If you are looking to have a few intimate couple hours with your partner or just a relaxing day at the spa, River Oaks Hot Springs Spa will not dissapoint. They have private jacuzzi's that are filled with the natural hot spring water known to have antibacterial and antifungal properties to help the skin--and I will say, my skin has never felt so soft before. Sadly, I did not take a good enough picture of our secluded hot tub area, but I did capture one photo on our walk to our hot tub.
The spa offers different services and packages depending on your budget, but you can pay for an hour long hot spring soak for $28 a person. Just be sure to check their website as pricing does change and they have different packages.&nbsp;
<h3>Conclusion</h3>
I had planned a very extensive itenirary for my mom and I when we went; but upon reflection, these were hands-down our favorite experiences to this day!&nbsp;
There is obviously so much more to explore, as there are the best wineries in Paso Robles with plenty to choose from, so be sure to do some further research to determine which locations you would love to see!

5 Must-Sees When Visiting Paso Robles

As I mentioned earlier, the road trip lasted 3 weeks so I definitly have pros and cons and things I would and would not do again. Most of the locations I went to are well-known, but I hope a few might be new to you so maybe one day you can take a road trip there!
First, I will discuss how I planned my roadtrip (most of it was spontanious). Second, all the locations I camped at including any parks, shops, restaurants or areas within each respective city. Then, I will go through my pros and cons list and finally, I will give you my final thoughts in hope it provides some gust of insight.
<h2>How I Planned My California Road Trip</h2>
The easiest way to plan this road trip for me was with google maps because of the different routs, abilites so hand-change the route, offline abilities, and live alerts. However, to be completely honest, I only booked reservation for my first week--all my reservations for the rest of the 2 weeks were made very last minute. Luckily, because I was traveling during the off-season, it is fairly easy to get a reservation (except for Carlsbad State Beach--ALWAYS plan months in advanced).
<h2>Locations:</h2>
I camped at a total of 8 different campsites, some with full hook-up, others with partial and only one off-grid. The total drive took about 34 hours, but probably longer since I was towing. Sadly on my way to my first stop--Santa Cruz--I did not take the pacific coast highway road trip by following Highway 1 because I was towing a 5,000+ pound trailer and it would have taken much longer. Sorry, but sometimes the scenic route is not always the way.

I am beyond happy Santa Cruz was my first stop because I only visited one other time and did not truly get to see Santa Cruz for its unique environment. I only spent 2 nights at the Santa Cruz/Monterey KOA, but enjoyed my time there so much.

I stayed at the Harbor RV Park sitting right on the edge of the Pacific Ocean--the views are unbeatable and include a nice little walk. Fort Bragg is a fairly small town, but has all the essentials.

<h3>Redding</h3>
During my time in Redding, I stayed at the Blouder Creek RV Resort and enjoyed every minute of it. The staff are incredibly friendly and have great suggestions for things-to-see. A great bonus were their pay-online washer/dryer machines so I didn't have to find quarters!

<h3>Eagle Lake</h3>
Eagle Lake is a different place. It is 100% designed for summer time camping as the trout fishing there is supposed to amazing during then. This was a very last-minute booking so I was not expecting to do much but relax for a few nights. The entire campsite was empty and I forgot to read the email with my site number (they only run power to select sites during the winter months), so I parked in a spot away from the main street for my first night there.

That night I ran out of propane and my solar panels were not generating enough energy to power my fridge. That morning, I moved everything over to the powered campsites and for my second and thrid nights, I was fine. I do not have any hot spots to go to since the town barely even has a gas station (there is gas at the campsite).

Napa Valley
To start, I did not go to Napa for Valley. I went because I needed a warmer place to stay instead of high mountain ranges, so I went inland. Napa in itself is a nice city, but soley designed for wine tours, which is great if that's what you enjoy! If you are looking for a few delicious treat for yourself, I got you covered.

Shaver Lake
I camped at Shaver Lake Campground during a holiday weekend and it was chaos, come Monday though the entire park was so quiet. You can easly walk straight down to the lake and keep exploring! I stayed at the lake my entire stay there since the drive was was little intense with curvy roads and climbing elevations.

South Carlsbad State Beach
I camped on the South Carlsbad State Beach by making a reservation 5 months in advanced to camp waking up to the ocean for 4 days (it was worth it). Since I grew up visiting Carlsbad I did not make any stops anywhere within the city, but still, here are a few things to check out depending on when you're camping there.

The majority of campsites are off-grid, but there are spots with hook-ups (those are hard to get thought!). Thankfully, there are plenty of bathrooms with showers around the campsite. You will also have private beach access!

<h3>Dixon Lake</h3>
Dixon Lake was my final stop, not too far from where I live so I clean all my tanks and get it ready to sit in my parents driveway until my next trip. Part of Dixon Lake is Daley Ranch, which includes all skill-level paths for hiking, biking, or horseback riding.

Dixon Lake does have great trout fishing for San Diego and the water is unbelievably clear, so plan ahead and be sure to get there early if you want a boat during peak trout seasPros List:

<h2>Conclusion</h2>
My West Coast road trip was liberating to say the least, but overall I loved every minute of it through the highs and lows. My favorite cities were Santa Cruz for the laid-back environment and Redding for the large variety of outdoor options to partake in! My least favorite was Napa, but I am a 23-year-old kid who does not drink often so, do you expect anything less?
My next big adventure will be a Pacific Northwest and Western Canada road trip where I will likely be on the road for 2 months! Stay tuned!
